Description

This “Live Paint” event is a fundraiser for the largest art installation from the San Diego community headed to Burning Man this year.

The piece is called “Ocean Tunnel” and it’s a 200′-long, 8′-tall tunnel filled with murals that convey how open ocean ecosystems are shifting due to climate change and unsustainable fishing practices.

The piece is split into eight sections, and over the course of these 3 days artist Mark Dugally (dugallery.com) will paint the artwork for one 24′-long section of the tunnel.

Between June 27 and June 29, Mark will have his canvas set up in the outdoor space at Quartyard. The space is open to the public who are welcomed to watch him create!

Members of the Ocean Tunnel team will be set up nearby to share about the project and the science behind the piece. They will also be collecting donations and selling tickets for a raffle of a variety of goods and services from local vendors.

All proceeds will be used to purchase materials and infrastructure for this 100% volunteer-based effort!

On the final day of the event (June 29), Ocean Tunnel will partner with Quartyard to produce their monthly neighborhood party FRIyay!.

There will be music, food, drink, face-painting and henna, live silk-screening, a photo booth, Poi and Hoop spinning performances, and more! The event is free and open to all — come out and support local art and ocean conservation!
